Serving Hope: A Pickleball & Community Hub for Uganda
Our Goal: £18,000 to transform lives through sport, nutrition, and sustainable employment.
For over 10 years, I have been travelling to Uganda to support meaningful community initiatives—from building hospitals to running outreach programmes. During this time, I’ve seen the harsh reality many families face.
The Challenge
Most families we work with survive on roughly $2 a day. Overcrowding is common, with many living in small structures made of mud-and-wattle or rusted iron sheets with dirt floors. In these communities, basic necessities are a luxury: clean water often requires walking miles to a well, electricity is scarce, and sanitation is usually limited to basic pit latrines. More than two-thirds of Ugandans live in these challenging conditions.
The Power of Sport
Despite these hardships, we have seen incredible joy through the introduction of Pickleball. With support from Pickleball England and the Premier Pickleball League, we have taken nets out to Uganda and coached young girls who otherwise have zero access to sport. Working alongside Pickleball Uganda, we’ve seen how this fast-growing game brings people together and builds confidence.
The Project: Building a Future
I am currently raising funds for a new initiative that combines community development through sport with essential nutritional support.
Phase 1: The Court (£6,000)
Construction of a dedicated pickleball court to provide a safe, inclusive space for young people to stay active and learn new skills.
Phase 2: The Community Hub (£10,000)
We plan to expand the site into a sustainable hub for the local area:
Phase 3: Vital Nutrition (£2,000)
For many children, a regular meal isn’t guaranteed. This fund will provide meals for 12 children, twice a week, for 6 months.
Why Support This Project?
This project is supported by Links International, a British charity ensuring your donations reach the heart of the community. I will be travelling to Uganda this September for the Ugandan Open, where I hope to see this project up and running and report back directly to you on the impact you've made.
By supporting this project, you’re helping to create both immediate impact—through meals—and long-term opportunity—through sport, employment, and community development.
Thank you for your support.
