Raising funds so that Ferries Family Groups can continue their work in the community supporting families

I am going to be doing a 5k walk throughout may, doing my part in fundraising for Ferries Family Groups as the work they do is invaluable. I am also a member as well as a volunteer, I joined as a mum when my children were very small and they are now 19 & 21 years old. I became quite isolated, being home with the kids the majority of the time and then when my daughter was 5 I became a single parent. Family Groups were there through all this and much more over the years. I had my safe place, and others who knew how hard it could be being a lone parent. Never any judgment and knowing I had this safe place I could be myself, any emotions a long the way would be ok to have and know I’m not on my own. Through the years I have been lucky to do many courses with Ferries.....the Nurturing course when the children were small and then a teens talk one which helped immensely as the children grew. Baby/Child first aid came in very useful..... even just a week after the course finished I was able to assist a mum with her baby choking and I got the obstruction out! I felt proud that I was able to assist with confidence knowing I knew exactly what to do, A confidence I once never had or feel I had. I have been supported through behaviour and school issues....which resulted in my son being diagnosed with adhd and Autism. Through COVID-19 and lockdown the support has not wavered, online chat group and video calls although not the same, have been great.....enabling our laughs and tears to be had and the support carry on. Even a few weeks ago I was in a bad place and I was able to go to our hub for a 1-1 meet.....a cuppa and a chat along with tears of sadness and chat of happy things. I truly needed this a long with time on my own in our warm welcoming ‘snug’
Ferries family Groups is just that.....a family, one great big family and I like many don’t know where I would be without everybody. Please if you are able please donate even if only £1 every penny will help for ferries family Groups to keep doing what they do best.
A 5k walk for many is nothing but for me it’s a mountain due to mobility and health conditions. Thank you for taking the time to read my story xx Jacqui
