Nepal Earthquake Appeal 2015

Event dates: 27th April 2015 – 30th September 2015

Rajeev Pradhan is raising money for The Bulldog Trust

My story

I have set up a fundraising page to help the people of Nepal who have been affected by the earthquake on 25th April 2015.

The need for help is going to be huge and the devastation in the long term is likely to prove just as catastrophic as the damage and destruction caused by the earthquake on April 25 2015.
The current reports from Kathmandu suggest more than 3300 people have been reported killed and more than 6500 injured, with many more feared trapped under rubble. The exact figure is still uncertain at this stage but is continuing to rise as the rescue and relief efforts continue. As of 25 April 3.5 million people across the country are affected by the disaster. 30,000 people are reportedly living out in the open in makeshift camps - too scared to their homes. Many buildings are still unsafe. There are currently 16 camps in Kathmandu Valley identified by government and relief agencies. According to the UN Resident Coordinator's report hospitals are overcrowded in Kathmandu valley and running short of emergency supplies.
The scale and cost of the response by NGO's and foreign government aid is still being assessed but what is clear is that we need to help now. Nepal is one of the world's poorest countries and does not have the infrastructure and resource to deal with a crisis of this magnitude. Half of the 27.8 million people in Nepal do not have access to improved sanitation and live below the poverty line, around one in three of them in severe poverty. Their ability to cope with a major disaster is crippled by the lack of economic and social infrastructure that people in richer nations take for granted. Many thousands of Nepalese are going to need a great deal of help.

All funds raised will be directly paid into the Bulldog Trust. The appeal by Bulldog Trust is being run by Alison Marston. Alison is a childhood friend who was also born and raised in Nepal. Alison works for the Bulldog Trust as their Head of Grants and Philanthropy. All monies donated will be closely monitored, accounted for and Alison will ensure that the allocation is to those in greatest need.

All your help and generosity is greatly appreciated. Nepal and its people will stay strong, persevere and ensure the country is rebuilt for the future generations and the survivors of this disaster.
