RFS are raising money for Little Troopers
On the 9th of September Team RFS will be taking on Mount Snowdon in Wales, in support of our chosen charity Little Troopers.
Little Troopers started 12 years ago with a trek up mount Snowdon, and now they host the Snowdon Challenge bi-annually, to encourage community engagement, camaraderie, and of course raise much needed funds to help them continue the invaluable work they do for children, young people and families in our community.
Founded in 2011, the same year as Recruit For Spouses, Little Troopers have worked tirelessly to champion and support the children of serving members of the armed forces, who often face challenges unique to being part of the military community.
With RFS CEO and Founder Heledd Kendrick being a trustee for the charity’s board, and many of our employees also being parents and military spouses, Little Troopers are a charity close to our hearts. Despite being a small charity, one glance at their website will show them to be an overflowing treasure trove of resources, specifically created with military children’s needs in mind. And their services aren’t only for little ones, despite the name!
Little Troopers offer resources covering a wide range of ages and areas of need, including residential outdoor adventure weekends, a six-week wellbeing course for both primary and secondary schools, resources for navigating tricky ‘big feelings’ in little ones, and a free deployment pack for kids with a deploying parent.
They even hosted a ‘Squad Podcast’ for military teenagers, where they interviewed military teenagers about their experiences of military life and what they really thought about growing up in the armed forces community.
Little Troopers is a registered charity supporting all children with one or both parents serving in our British Armed Forces (regular or reserve). These children face unique daily challenges due to their parents career choice especially when they experience repeated separation of varying lengths of time from their serving parent(s) due to exercises and operations plus moving home and school frequently due to service requirements.
This is what Little Troopers say about the Snowdon Challenge -
“It is a great weekend of community, fundraising and achievement for all, in 2023 we will trek the Llanberis path on Saturday 9th September and we hope you will join us!
Individuals, business groups, families…everyone is welcome.
We’d love you to join us but if you don’t feel you can make it in person we have a virtual challenge you can complete on the same day on around that time! We can all come together and make a huge difference.
This year for the first time we are working with an external organisation who will guide the trek on the day and manage all our safety, this is why we are having to impose and entry fee per person, which we have subsidised. This fee will cover your guided trek, safety, medal, certificate and tea and cake post trek.”
