Our story

We aim to walk 54 miles in a circular route from Ramsbottom, passing through Edenfield, Rochdale, Manchester, Salford, Clifton, Radcliffe and Bury. God knows how long it will take us, but we are hoping to do this within 24 hours, but I suppose it will depend on how may stops we take on route.

Why you may ask?
To help raise awareness to fight rare renal cancers

About the charity
The Ricky Casey Trust seeks to advance the knowledge, education and research into rare cancers in the UK, particularly but not exclusively, Renal Medullary Carcinoma (RMC) subtype. The charity aims to raise funds to improve awareness amongst the general public and health professionals, treating renal cancers in the UK, fund vital research and provide equipment and treatment to help relieve sickness and preserve the heath of people suffering from RMC and other rare renal cancers.

You may ask why 54 miles
Ricky was a black 48-year-old, who was a fit healthy guy who served as a firefighter in Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service. In March 2018 he started to get a dull ache in his left testicle. By August of that year, he was diagnosed with RMC. With little research into treatments, options were limited and unfortunately, he lost his battle in May 2019. In March 2024, Ricky should have been celebrating his 54th birthday. HENCE THE 54........
