Clare Dean (née Donnellan) is raising money for My Name'5 Doddie Foundation and Leeds Hospitals Charity
I am doing a Half Ironman event in Weymouth on September 17th to raise money for Motor Neurone Disease and in memory of my friend Susie Hamlin who died from this terrible condition in April 2018, aged 45.
I first thought of doing this as a 'turning 50' event in 2021, but then COVID happened and I couldn't swim much... I'm sure Susie would have either done it with me or cheered me on! We did the Great North Run together previously and she loved doing the Leeds Marathon before she became unwell. I've been training for 6 months so am aiming to 1) complete it and 2) enjoy it! It consists of a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike ride and half marathon run.
The money will be split between the 'My Name'5 Doddie Foundation' and Leeds Hospitals Charity (going to the Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease). Thank you for donating!
Thank you for checking out my page. Making a donation is fast, easy and secure thanks to Give as you Live Donate. They'll take your donation and pass it onto My Name'5 Doddie Foundation and Leeds Hospitals Charity.

Hi all
Thank you so much for sponsoring me!
I really enjoyed the day, but many of you will be aware that the swim was unfortunately cancelled due to the risk of lightening...!
Despite that, I had a really good day and there was amazing support on the course. Torrential rain during the bike ride (and drizzle during the run) but still really fun!
I may have to do it again next year to complete a half ironman..... Don't worry, I won't ask for more sponsorship!
Thanks again
Clare

This is a great image of Susie doing the Leeds marathon, a year before she developed symptoms. Big smile, big heart! x
