My story
I’m excited to have one of the 7,777 places for the Rob Burrow Marathon on May 14th, 2023.
I’m hoping to raise a total of £7,777 for three very deserving causes.
ROB BURROW CENTRE for Motor Neurone Disease
The planned state-of-the -art centre will be the first of its kind in Europe supporting patients, their families and carers living with the disease.
Your donation will support Rob and his family in their efforts to provide facilities, raise awareness and fund research on behalf of the 5000 families affected by MND in the UK annually.
CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably) thecalmzone.net
Rich Yates was my friend and training partner for the first ever London Marathon in 1981. Luke Carragher was my dear nephew. Both these remarkable young men were lost to suicide while in their early twenties.
CALM is “United Against Suicide” and dedicated to working with young people struggling with mental health challenges through their helpline, national awareness campaigns and building support communities.
SPINAL RESEARCH (spinal-research.org/)
Just before my 4th marathon in 2010, I happened to read Melanie Reid’s first article detailing the trauma and consequences of her spinal cord injury following a horse-riding accident.
It made me realise that a marathon was nothing to worry about. Melanie’s weekly “Spinal Column” in The Times is at the forefront of highlighting the daily challenges facing people with paralysis.
Melanie’s chosen charity Spinal Research is the UK’s leading charity funding research to develop effective treatments for Spinal Cord Injury.
Your donation will be divided equally among these wonderful charities and will be a huge motivation helping me ‘get the miles in’ over the following ten months training.
Thank you so much.
Andy
