Laura, your commitment to getting people into tech is so wonderful and I'll always be grateful for your support when we first started out in tech! You're going to SMASH this half marathon! :D
Event date:
Laura Leigh is raising money for Codebar
Once upon a time, before three kids and the general chaos of life, I used to run a lot. I even ran the Melbourne Marathon! But over the years, running slipped down the priority list. Earlier this year, I decided to get back into it and completed Couch to 5K.
Now I’m going further: training for the Robin Hood Half Marathon.
I’m doing it to raise money for codebar, an organisation that helps people from underrepresented backgrounds get into tech. After switching careers myself, I saw first-hand how tough it can be to break into the industry, so I started and now organise the codebar Nottingham chapter (with some help from some amazing engineers) to help make that path easier for others.
This half marathon is a personal challenge but it’s also about backing a cause I really believe in. If you can support me, I’ll do the running and your donation will help open doors for future developers.
Thank you for checking out my page. Making a donation is fast, easy and secure thanks to Give as you Live Donate. They'll take your donation and pass it onto Codebar.
12 week to go!
My half marathon training has officially begun. I have an expert coach, my first sponsor and SO many miles ahead of me.
Last week I ran a nice and easy 8k, but lots of aches and pains and exhaustion followed. Training when you have a family is so hard but equally so rewarding; my kids are my biggest cheerleaders.
Yesterday marked 12 weeks until the big event so I made sure I woke up today with a fresh mindset. I need to up my mileage gently, build strength and prioritise rest.
One run at a time.
