Raising money for Kisenye Health Centre IV

Event date: 23rd November 2014

Robert Harper is raising money for Knowledge for Change

My story

I am currently working at Kisenye Health Centre IV, a health centre in Kampala which, since earlier this year, has been helping many mothers to deliver their babies. Mulago hospital, the main hospital in Kampala, is desperately overcrowded, so we are trying to take some of the pressure off them. This should allow better care for all.

Like all state hospitals in Uganda, Kisenye is very short of funds. However, there are a few specific areas where simple purchases could make a long term difference. For example, we have an oxygen concentrator, but only one connector. When, the other day, we delivered premature twins, we had to give them oxygen in turns. £5 or so would buy the equipment to allow us to give oxygen to more than one baby at a time. In another example, we often have to repair women's tears in semi darkness, because there are no portable lamps to illuminate our work. A working light would cost perhaps £10.

I am running the Kampala Marathon to raise money for the charity I work with, the Liverpool - Mulago Partnership, which is helping to improve maternal and newborn health in Kampala and across Uganda. Please do support this cause.

See liverpoolmulagopartnership.org/ for more info.
