Leisure for Autism

Event date: 26th September 2010

SammieC is raising money for LEISURE FOR AUTISM

My story

On 26th September I will be taking part in The Great Salford Swim, which consists of swimming a mile in open water in the shortest length of time possible.

I am not only doing this to the amusement of my very good friends who are going to come along and support me purely to ...see me freeze in a wetsuit. But also for a serious cause.

I am hoping to raise money for the Leisure for Autism Scheme, which is a summer scheme held here in Wigan and throughout Greater Manchester who have some fabulously trained staff. The aim of the scheme is to give groups of local children who have Autism (Autistic Spectrum Disorder/ASD) and other combined difficulties a fun week taking part in activities and going on trips to places that they would not usually get the chance to experience.

I am sure everyone can imagine some of the horrific things such vulnerable children are subjected to when they simply try to go out for the day with their families and friends. Well this scheme provide a safe environment for the children and take them to places they KNOW they will enjoy, often specialised places for children with such difficulties.

Anyone who knows me will, or should, know how close Autism is to my heart as my younger brother is also autistic and also benefits from this Scheme, alongside hundreds of other children across Greater Manchester, so I think it's about time the Scheme got some recognition and raised some extra funds to hopefully extend the time period of next years scheme, and bring some joy to some very special children :)

Anything you could give would be greatly appreciated, Write on the wall or drop me a message :)

If you want to know more about this Scheme, here is their website.

Please give whatever you can!!

Autism is on the increase, people need to be made aware, and more needs to be done to support our local groups who are there to help us!!
