Jessica Burnett is raising money for Yellow Door
Hi everyone! I am going to be running Sheffield 10k in September to raise money for Yellow Door. For 40 years, Yellow Door have supported people in the Southampton area who have been impacted by sexual or domestic abuse. As a victim of sexual abuse myself, I can vouch for the incredible support that this charity has given to me and my family throughout such a difficult period, and through fundraising aim to give back to the people who helped me regain my life.
By donating, you will help to fund a plethora of services including individual and family therapies, independent sexual violence advisors (ISVAs) and the STAR education and prevention project which delivers sessions to children and young people. These services are absolutely vital. Last year alone, Yellow Door supported 4,976 people impacted by abuse and since 2016/17 have seen a 300% increase in service users supported. It is so important that every service user is able to access the resources they need, and with the help of donations, this charity can continue to fund these services. Every penny counts, and I would be so grateful for any donations and shares of my page!
How your donations could support the charity:
• £5 - could buy resources for a child or young person doing Art Therapy.
• £10 - could provide transport costs for an ISVA client to attend a trial at court.
• £15 - could pay for healthy food for children attending one of their 12 week therapeutic programmes.
• £20 -could pay for resources so the STAR Project can deliver preventative educational workshops in schools.
• £50 -could pay for a counselling session for someone who has experienced sexual abuse/violence.
• £150 -could contribute towards STAR healthy relationship prevention sessions in Southampton schools.
• £300 -could enable a young person to attend the Creative Arts Group, a group for young people who have experienced sexual abuse to come together and recover from the trauma they have experienced.
• £500 -could be used in many ways including enabling their STAR team to deliver 4 preventative education sessions to up to 120 young people.
• £2,500 -could fund a Bright Stars course for 8 young people who have experienced domestic abuse.
I am not a runner by any means, but I am absolutely determined to take on this challenge and to run for every other victim of sexual and domestic violence out there. Please know that there is always support available and you are not alone. Yellow Door’s helpline is open every Wednesday between 4-7pm at 023 8063 6314 and they have free online resources on their website: yellowdoor.org.uk. Sexual abuse is never an easy topic to discuss, but I hope to raise awareness and help to break the stigma that comes with being a victim. Your support means the world.
Jess
