My story
My dad, Ted Swindale, was dedicated to helping others and wanting to better their lives and futures. Here is a bit about my dad's involvement in helping to start the New Era Evangelism school in Sierra Leone with a pen friend he made in the country called Alpha Kargbo. Initially Dad helped Alpha to start a small business and then he flew to Sierra Leone to meet Alpha in 1989 and again a year later. Alpha wanted to start a school for many orphaned and poor children. With help from a trust (people in partnership), a school was built and by 2017 there were 814 pupils from nursery to secondary school. Dad visited the school in Sierra Leone around 8 or 9 times over the years and has taken teams out to help with the work. It also inspired him to do a degree in Third World Development at Derby University!
For many years, the church my dad attended sent £600 a month to pay the teachers. Unfortunately now we are sending much less, although it is understandable with how the current climate is. Also, since my dad and Alpha have sadly passed away, there is less engagement with the community there; I would love to be able to increase this amount and have a regular amount to help support their incredible teachers and do additional fundraising to help with projects and events they have on.
