Moonlight Walk

My mum and I are both doing the Moonlight Walk on Friday 7th September to raise money for Dove Cottage Day Hospice.

Dove Cottage, based in the beautiful Vale of Belvoir, Leicestershire, really is a remarkable place. It is a hospice where terminally ill people can go for palliative care in their late stages. It is very dear to my heart and I know how much my Dad truly loved being there. Dad was a chaplain at the hospice for many years before he himself became ill with Alzheimer's and then cancer at the beginning of this year.

Even though all of the guests are terminally ill, when you walk in to Dove, everyone is so happy and it's such a comforting environment. Surprisingly, whenever I visit, the sun is always shining too!

We are planting a tree and arranging for a bench to be placed in the grounds of Dove Cottage in honour of Dad, which makes it an even more special place to us.

We have known the hospice manager, Chris Gatfield, for over 15 years now and when she told us about the Moonlight walk, I knew we had to do it- we need to raise as much money for the hospice as possible. It is a free of charge service for the guests, therefore the hospice relies solely on donations and fundraising.
