2012 Summer School for Young Composers

The SaM Summer School is an innovative project for talented young composers aged 14-18. It enables young people to develop their composition skills through an intensive residential week, mentored by professional composers and musicians. The scheme offers 75 students a truly inspiring experience and is the only programme of its kind in the UK. Few opportunities exist for young people to learn more about composition techniques, explore how music is made, and share their enthusiasm with others. The Summer School supports young composers at the early stage of their engagement with composition, building confidence and encouraging them to achieve their full potential. Each student works in a chosen specialism to create their own original piece - anything from jazz to classical, vocal, world music or film score. Course fees are subsidised for all, but with your support we can also provide bursaries for those students needing extra help in covering the cost of their place. Thank you!
