Susannah England's London Marathon Run 2011

Event date: 17th April 2011

Susannah England is raising money for FERRING COUNTRY CENTRE LIMITED

My story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my fundraising page.

As many of you know, I am running the Virgin London Marathon on 17th April 2011 in aid of Ferring Country Centre. I have twin cousins, Andrew and James Boughton-Leigh, of which Ferring has been of huge benefit. I have been lucky enough to have grown up with these two wonderful chaps and shared many memorable times with them. To celebrate the three of us turning forty this year ( where does the time go ?!! ) I am donning my trainers to run 26.2 miles in the hope of raising as much as I can for this wonderful charity.

A little bit about the Charity...
Ferring Country Centre is a local independent charity in West Sussex that provides meaningful training and work experience for people with learning difficulties. Their clients develop work and social skills by assisting them with operating the Riding Therapy Unit, Garden Centre, Cafe and Small Animal Farm, or by participating in their life skills and community projects team.

The Centre enables clients to work in a safe, supervised and supportive environment. Clients are able to build on their self esteem and confidence whilst learning and being given opportunities that some of us take for granted. They are empowered to make choices, sometimes for the first time in their lives. The aim of the Charity is that the work ethos applied at the Centre will enable their clients to move on to work in the community, voluntary or possibly paid employment.

As well as providing work experience for people with learning difficulties, the Riding Therapy Unit provides riding therapy for approximately 600 children and adults with learning or physical disabilities per month. Ferring Country Centre's dedicated team help the riding groups with attention, concentration and sensory movement. Riders benefit from psychological aspects of Animal Assisted Interventions (spending time with animals in a meaningful way), such as forming special relationships and trust, as well as improving fine and gross motor skills.

Every donation, no matter how big or small will help us reach our target and help Ferring Country Centre to keep offering their fantastic services to people with learning difficulties. If you would like to know any more about the Charity, please visit their website ferringcountrycentre.org.
