100km London to Cambridge for The Kaos Organisation
Event date:
Daniel Mclaughlan is raising money for THE KAOS ORGANISATION
My story
Hello and thank you for visiting my fundraising page.
Who are Kaos?
I'm raising money for The Kaos Organisation, a Haringey-based Youth Arts Charity promoting deaf awareness and inclusion. They do this by combining drama and singing with sign language, which they deliver in regular workshops and school visits, to children of all ages.
They also run The Kaos Signing Choir for Deaf & Hearing Children: a 200-strong choir for children aged 4 to 18, that has performed at some prestigious events including the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics, and more recently on the Paul O'Grady Show. They've also recorded one of their songs - 'One Earth, One Sky' - at Abbey Road Studios.
Why Kaos?
I first learned of The Kaos Organisation when I met one of their brilliant 'Signductors' at my British Sign Language Level 2 class last year, and had the privilege of taking part in their Saturday morning Kaos Family Choir sessions.
I immediately fell in love with their enthusiasm and passion for what they do, and the confidence and social skills this encourages in their members. I love sign language and to see Kaos re-interpret the songs we all know and love - and their own Songs of Kaos - in this beautifully expressive medium is a real pleasure.
The Challenge
I'm doing the London to Cambridge 100km Ultra Challenge on 29th August 2015. This is a 100km / 62 mile walk starting in East London and following the Lee River off into the meadows and farmland of the countryside to Cambridge.
The challenge starts in the early am and the aim is to complete the course between 15-33 hours. There are rest stops every 12.5km, with major rest stops at 25, 50 and 75km, and finally a much needed hot meal at 100km.
My Training
This will be a big step up (no pun intended) for me. While I enjoy walking and have done a few spur of the moment challenges before (Paddington Bear Hunt, Sheep In The City), i've never attempted anything like this.
I'm trying to build up endurance in my lower limbs at the moment and following a regular training plan. I?m tracking my daily stats with my FitBit which has been a mixture of evening/weekend walks.
How You Can Help
Please donate if you can. Every donation is very much appreciated. The Kaos Organisation receive no formal funding so I feel the least I can do is give something back so that they can continue to spread their positive message. Remember you can Gift Aid your donation so that The Kaos Organisation can claim an extra 25p against every £1 donated.
You can also help in other ways beyond the fundraising for this event:
I'm keeping the page open until the Action Challenge closing date of 25th September to allow pledges, however you can also donate to The Kaos Organisation at any time via their website.
You can also buy the 'Songs of Kaos' digital audio downloads from The Kaos Organisation online shop.
Lastly, Every Click, who are hosting my fundraising page, allow you to raise money for a nominated charity by shopping at many online retailers - including Amazon - via their Give As You Live scheme. Please see their website for details.
Thank you.
Thank you for checking out my page. Making a donation is fast, easy and secure thanks to Give as you Live Donate. They'll take your donation and pass it onto THE KAOS ORGANISATION.
