Tim's Spine Challenge North run for WaterAid & Mountain Rescue

Event dates: 13th January 2025 – 16th January 2025

Tim Darlow is raising money for Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue Team (Scotland) and WaterAid

My story

By day, I am a Process Engineer working for Stantec UK, delivering water treatment related projects across the UK.  I share Stantec's support for WaterAid, a charity working to provide clean drinking water and sanitation to everyone.

For the remaining of my waking, and sleeping hours, I am on call as a rescue volunteer with Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue Team.  For over 50 yrs, the team has been helping people in peril in hard to reach areas in the hills, forests, and valleys across the Scottish Borders.  The team is almost entirely funded by charity donations and it currently takes about £30,000 per year to cover our operating expenses.

I am passionate about the work of WaterAid and Mountain Rescue and I'm raising money for both charities by running 160 miles non-stop, offroad, in winter.  The Challenger North race is part of the Montane Winter Spine races.  I will start in Hawes on Mon 13th Jan, and will travel across the hills of the Pennine Way to Kirk Yetholm in Scotland, hoping to arrive sometime on Wednesday night.  As well as the ferocity of British winter weather, I will need to contend with 16 hours of darkness every day. If you would like to support me, WaterAid and Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue, I would be very grateful for any donation, not matter how small, you can make.

Thank you for checking out my page. Making a donation is fast, easy and secure thanks to Give as you Live Donate. They'll take your donation and pass it onto Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue Team (Scotland) and WaterAid.
