My story

Well it's finally happening! After 20 years of trying, I have a place on the start line for the London Marathon on April 27th - and in return for Lord's Taverners giving me that opportunity, I'm raising money to support the great work that they do.

Cricket has been a massive part of my life, either as one of the first team sports I became involved in as a kid, the sport that has given me the chance to travel to amazing places over the last 10 years for work, or something I just love to play and watch, so I have long been aware of the Lord's Taverners.

Formed in the Lord's Tavern pub, in 1950 - at the famous cricket ground - they exist to empower and positively impact the lives of disabled and disadvantaged young people through inclusive and impactful cricket programmes - such as Table Cricket, Wicketz, Super 1s and many more - which help those young people to develop their confidence, improve their health and well-being, as well as allowing them to feel more included and make friends through opportunities that wouldn't otherwise be available to them.

I'm no stranger to how sport can have such a positive impact. After going through some difficult times during and after Covid, running became my escape, gave me some purpose and drive, and was huge for my health and wellbeing.

So, running my first ever marathon with Team Tavs is the perfect partnership and a great way of using sport to do some good and I'd be hugely grateful if you can support me and the Lord's Taverners by donating what you can, to help me get as close to my fundraising goal as possible. Thank you!

My updates

Hi all,

I'm so grateful for all the donations so far... even the slightly weird ones! Thank you all so much.

It was mentioned to me a couple of days ago that my total at that time (around £775) was able to fund a Super 1s hub for 2 months. Super 1s gives young people with a disability the chance to play regular competitive cricket while improving confidence and independence.

Check out the linked video about Lucy, an Oxfordshire Cricket Super 1s coach. Diagnosed with autism at 20, she overcame anxiety and depression, became a level 2 coach and played in the first Women's Disability Premier League.

In terms of my training, the mileage is really ramping up now - I'm running about 80km a week, with the weekend long runs in the 30-35km region. Feeling good and getting to the point where I just want the day to arrive!

Any more donations would be fantastic and if I can get a little closer to my fundraising target I'd be very grateful and very proud :)
