Tony Armstrong Community Defibrillator Challenge

Event dates: 29th April 2018 – 30th November 2019

Barry Armstrong is raising money for Cariad

My story

Many of you will remember our brother, uncle and cousin Tony who passed away suddenly last November due to a ruptured Aorta. It happened so quickly and was a terrible shock to our family as well as those closest to him.

We've had a little time without him around now and have decided to raise some money in his memory with the help of Cariad Defibrillators Wales, the aim being to be able to provide a community defibrillator in his home town of Burry Port where he was very popular walking the streets on his daily errands, calling in numerous shops as well as his regular bingo/snooker nights in The British Legion.

Despite the very best attempts of paramedics at the time, Tony sadly didn't make it with devastating effect to his family that he left behind so unexpectedly. We now know that he didn't stand a chance even if he was sat on a hospital ward at the time when this happened.

None the less, we still feel that being able to provide a community defibrillator in his memory is still a very honourable and fitting tribute for him as it may well prove to be a lifesaver for someone else further down the line in future days.

I/we aim to take part in numerous fundraising events to hopefully raise enough money to provide an AED Defibrillator i.e. externally located in Burry Port (at a location to be confirmed) where it can be accessed 24/7 day & night. An approximate cost for one of these is in the region of £1500.00 so the events will run over the next few months through the summer to hopefully allow us to reach this target.

 Events planned so far are:

April 29th: ABP Newport 10k run.

May 5/6th weekend: Penyfan mountain climb.

May 26/27th weekend: Snowdon climb.

June 23rd: Eventbrite Sospan 10k run.

July 7th: Invincible Pembrey

There will be updates of any further events added to this list as and when.

You can donate or sponsor through the conventional form method via various family members and in several shops in Burry Port. Or, you can use this online just-giving page which also offers gift aid on all donations since Cariad is a registered Charity. Gift aid adds a little 25% extra to your donation at no extra cost to you so is worth pledging if you can.

We will provide regular timely updates on our progress along the way and of any further info or changes if that's the case.

On behalf of the family I would like to express our sincerest thanks for any donation that you are able to make no matter how small, this is a worthy cause close to our hearts and hopefully will provide a vital life saving facility to serve a community should it be needed.

Kindest appreciation,

Barry Armstrong
