Tour De Manc - SaddleSoreSingers
Event date: 30th April 2023
Saddle Sore Singers is raising money for Haematology And Transplant Support (HaTS)
My story
We are raising money for Haematology and Transplant Support (HaTS). HaTS is an independent charity, whose overriding objective is to provide and improve upon the support and care provided to cancer patients and their families of the Hematology and Transplant Units (HTUs) situated in The Christie Hospital.
We will be undertaking the gruelling challenge of the Tour De Manc on 30th April 2023!
9 Boroughs
100miles
7000ft
A testing Tour de Manc challenge programme. This route is not for the unprepared or faint hearted. It’s a challenge, epic and based on our previous rides feedback you’ll be “Mad ‘fer it”.
The Full or Classic Manc is 100 miles long, tours 9 boroughs of Greater Manchester in an anti-clockwise direction and every year our riders tell us how tough it is. You need to be a fit cyclist and we will be tested for sure. There are a number of closed road or one way sections including the King/Queen of the mountain prize section, which tackles the lung-busting Werneth Low.
Graham McCusker, one of the riders who is taking part in this cycling challenge was supported by HaTS during his time at The Christie in 2016/17 and has recently been back to the Christie for further Radiotherapy and treatment since May 2022. However, it is a positive story, and currently Graham is cancer free. So, please donate and contribute to a charity that has made a direct impact on Graham and many other people’s lives, and help them continue to do so. They are wonderful people.
Here is a little further info on the charity -
Originally known as ALUPAL, the charity, celebrating 30 years of existence in 2016, helps patients and their families overcome some of the day to day challenges they encounter when faced with life threatening illnesses and periods of isolation.
Whilst recognising the excellent clinical care and support provided by the HTUs, HaTS also recognises that sometimes patients and their families need that little extra support which is often outside of the NHS resources.
The funds raised by HaTS are used to provide financial assistance to those patients and carers experiencing difficulties. The funds also help to improve the service provided on the unit, mainly by providing Complementary Therapies to patients and carers alike. These therapies help with the physical and emotional effects experienced as a result of a cancer diagnosis.
