About us

'Motivating Young People Through Sailing'
The Island Trust helps young people with disabilities, learning difficulties, and those suffering deprivation to take part in exciting adventure voyages on board our fleet of traditional sailing boats.
Through the challenge of learning to sail we provide disadvantaged young people with the opportunity to develop their capabilities and life-skills. We coach the teamwork and communication skills necessary to lead a fun, healthy and independent life. Vocational training offered on board can contribute to long-term employment prospects. Our young sailors return to their communities with an altered outlook on life, increased motivation and a fresh perspective on their self-worth and abilities. For many who sail with us, this outdoor experience could be the first time they have stayed away from home, left the inner city or community where they live.

The Eddystone Pursuit sailing event - A fun chase to fundraise

Event date: Saturday 17th June 2023

The excitement is building for this year’s Eddystone Charity Sailing Pursuit, the South West’s largest sailing fundraising event. On Saturday 17th June 2023 Moosk, Pegasus and Johanna Lucretia will join a flotilla of boats for 26 miles of fun to the Eddystone lighthouse and back.

Please support us by making a donation; whether big or small it will make a difference to deserving young lives. If you are joining us on board or are entering your own boat you can create your own Fundraising page.

£10 will buy I-spy booklets and marine life resources for two profoundly disabled young people. £30 will help us to provide the food for an outdoor residential adventure for one young person. £60 will buy a life jacket. £148 will buy a days outdoor activity sailing, and £740 a life-changing 5 night voyage of discovery for one young person.
