Action For Asperger's
Charity number: 1148790
Website: www.actionforaspergers.org
Description:
THE CHARITY'S OBJECTS ("THE OBJECTS") ARE TO PROMOTE THE RELIEF OF PEOPLE WITH ASPERGER'S SYNDROME AND THEIR FAMILY, FRIENDS AND CARERS BY THE PROVISION OF ADVICE, COUNSELLING, EMOTIONAL SUPPORT, BEFRIENDING AND ADVOCACY WITH THE OBJECT OF IMPROVING THEIR CONDITIONS OF LIFE.
The charity caters for all ages from 3 upwards. Our quiet and low-key way of working (counselling environment) is doing some major work, not only in the county, but beyond for the autism cause. It is a unique charity in that there is no other like it in the world. It deals with 'lives that have become adversely affected by the experience of autism' which means that if you have autism, the service is available to you, and likewise if you have a close relationship with someone who has autism, then the service is there for you also. No other charity offers this in the world.
Autism is understood both professionally, personally and experientially by all persons who work for AfA.
AfAs philosophy is 'once under the wing, always under the wing' which means that once a person has visited the charity, they have an open-door access to the charity at any other time in their life/point in the future. This method provides a valuable 'holding' position for lives that feel 'shaky' in a society that consists mainly of neurologically-typical thinkers which account for at least 97% of the world population. The remaining 3% being somewhere on the autism spectrum.
