Description:
Alexander Devine Children's Hospice Service provides specialist care and vital support to children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions, and their families, across Berkshire and into surrounding counties.
Our holistic approach is tailored for every child and family in order to provide the best possible care and support that they need, as well as helping them create memories, for however long they have together. Whether it is at our children’s hospice in Maidenhead or out in the community in a family’s home, hospitals or schools, we can offer: Respite Care, Specialist Play, Symptom Management, Family Support, End of Life Care and Bereavement Support.
The charity was founded by John and Fiona Devine in memory of their son Alexander, who sadly passed away from a rare brain tumour in 2006 at the age of eight. Their personal experience and extensive research led them to realise the desperate need for a local children’s hospice service with a hospice facility in Berkshire.
Our vision is to continue growing our children's hospice service, giving children and their families a choice of care and support from a skilled and dedicated team by working closely in partnership with the NHS, local authorities and other services in delivering our care. But it costs us £2.3 million each year just to maintain our current level of care. With only around 20% statutory government and NHS funding, we are almost entirely reliant on fundraising, donations and gifts in Wills to meet the costs of running our service.
That means, the support we receive from individuals, businesses, schools, community groups, clubs and volunteers enables us to run our vital children's hospice service across the whole of Berkshire and into the surrounding counties. So thank you!
