Description:
FPP specialises in working for and on behalf of all those affected by Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) and other complex trauma-related dissociative conditions. We receive no funding and rely heavily on donations received through memberships, training courses, the sale of training dvds and the generosity of our donors.
What is DID? In summary - most people experience mild dissociation, e.g. daydreaming or getting lost in the moment. DID is the most complex form of dissociation, mainly resulting from severe and prolonged childhood trauma. A combination of severe symptoms of amnesia, derealisation, depersonalisation, identity confusion and identity alteration, it is frequently misunderstood, often unrecognised and even when diagnosed correctly it can be difficult to access effective treatment and support.
Established over 20 years ago, FPP aims to improve knowledge, understanding and recognition; encourage and facilitate mutual support and move towards better access to specialist assessments, with effective treatment and care pathways. We deliver training courses, awareness raising sessions, written information and audio-visual resources, as well as a members' newsletter and access to online support forums for full members.
Our mission is for all those who are adversely affected by complex dissociative conditions to have free and easy access to a range of relevant specialist assessments, treatment, care and support services; offering the hope of recovery and an improved quality of life.
