Description:
Established in 1994 and based in the heart of the Peak District the charity provides the resources that seek to encourage the strengthening of family bonds and support to equip individuals and families to succeed back in the community.
At Charis House, in Buxton, Derbyshire our Family Centre provides refuge accommodation for up to 12 women and their children needing protection from domestic abuse, or support with other significant difficulties. We also provide registered Early Years Education and Day Nursery (for 48 children), with Recovery and Community Support Outreach Projects to over 40 families.
Local area statistics indicate that socially and economically deprived families are stuck in a cyclical pattern of disadvantage leading to the issues that we are seeking to address.
Services offered through GNFC include:
Residential support for women and their children who are in crisis
Recovery support
Community outreach
Registered day nursery
Support and advice
Outreach activities
Farm based work skills training projects and support groups.
The growing need for our work and the affordable programmes that we offer is self evident with our services having catered residentially for more than 800 women and children from all over the UK, and over 1,600 people in total including day project services for both men & women.
Norman Wood FarmTherapeutic acitivities benefit young people, men, women and families. They include horticulture, conservation, dry-stone walling, free range egg production, wood work project, equestrian project and much much more.
