Description:
Harper Asprey Wildlife Rescue is a wildlife rescue that supports the community both locally and nationally. We treat on average 3,000 patients a year and answer an estimated 5,000 calls. We treat all UK wildlife such as badgers, foxes, bats, hedgehogs, weasels, dormice, birds of prey, snakes and gardens birds. We continue to create complex soft release procedures for the animals we care for to ensure their transition back into the wild has the greatest success.
We support the local community by caring for wildlife on the front line. We give advice on many wildlife related issues. We rescue, treat, rehabilitate and release our wildlife but we also educate. This is a vital part of our work. If we are to support wildlife in the long term, education is key. Many of the issues our wildlife face are common injuries and through education we can reduce the dangers created by humans.
We have a major national community engagement project called Amazing Grace that focuses on hedgehogs and is collating data nationally. We filmed three one hour documentaries for Channel 5 on Hedgehogs and two on foxes which have been extremely successful. It is essential we educate the community on all species. The time, energy and expertise invested in our patients would serve no purpose if they didn’t have a home to go to. We encourage children and adults to care for their environment and reduce the use of pesticides and dangers that exist in both domestic and commercial situations. We help remove the myths that surround our spectacular wildlife and encourage the next generation to learn and understand that any space can be a great environment for both humans and our native wildlife.
We support wildlife in the local community with outreach and treat much wildlife in situ working with companies and home owners. We work with local schools and community groups along with local businesses and give talks in schools, universities and adult groups on wildlife and its impact on us. We have talks adapted to all key stages.
Harper Asprey Wildlife Rescue supports the community by treating injured wildlife, rescuing wildlife from situations the public cannot tackle, rehabilitating orphaned and injured wildlife, through education programs, wildlife talks and partnering development projects. Please help us continue to save our beautiful wildlife.
