Description:
Hope For Tomorrow is a national charity bringing cancer care closer to patients via our Mobile Cancer Care Unit (MCCU) Project. Working in partnership with the NHS, who provide two fully qualified Chemotherapy nurses and a driver, their MCCUs go out into local communities to park up in public spaces such as community hospitals, supermarket car parks, sports centres and more, delivering cancer treatment to patients. This alleviates the stresses and strains of patients and/or their carers/ family/ friends travelling for appointments, along with reducing hospital waiting times, allowing them to spend more time with their loved ones when they need it the most, along with gaining some normality back in their day to day routine.
There are currently have 10 MCCUs nationwide, along with a Support Vehicle based in Southampton to transport their Oncology nursing team and required drugs to the local outreach centres. The charity develop, build, own and maintain the MCCUs when in partnership with the NHS. Their MCCUs can visit up to 5 locations a week and with 4 chairs on board, can see up to 20 patients a day delivering various treatments including chemotherapy, PICC lines, oral chemotherapy, blood transfusions and more. The MCCUs are only 6 car parking spaces wide, enabling it to be easily movable, should the treatment location need to change. Treatment locations are determined by the NHS as to where patient need is greatest.
