10,000 Interns Foundation

Event date: 19th July 2023

10,000 Interns Foundation are raising money for Lia's Wings and National Autistic Society

Our story

We are the 10,000 Interns Foundation - we believe talent is everywhere but opportunity is not.

Through our two programmes: 10,000 Black Interns and 10,000 Able Interns, we are championing underrepresented Black and Disabled talent, by offering students and grads paid internship opportunities across a range of UK industries.

This Summer, we are participating in a charity boat race to raise money for Lia's Wings and the National Autistic Society. Since the launch of our 2nd programme, 10,000 Able Interns, last year, the National Autistic Society have partnered with us to deliver training to our community, and this is our opportunity to give back.

The National Autistic Society

The National Autistic Society is the UK's leading charity for people on the autism spectrum and their families. They are here to help the 700,000 autistic people in the UK and their families. Be it running specialist schools, campaigning for improved rights or training companies on being more autism-friendly, they are dedicated to transforming lives and changing attitudes.

Autism at Work programme is the National Autistic Society's flagship employment programme, which aims to bridge the gap between skills shortages in society and autistic job seekers. Currently, only 29% of autistic adults are in employment - even though 77% want to work. This is a shocking statistic and one which the National Autistic Society, through Autism at Work, is striving to change in the following ways:

  • They support employers to create accessible job opportunities and workplaces in which autistic candidates can thrive.
  • Employers on the programme have a dedicated account manager to provide tailored support in hiring and retaining candidates.
  • Autistic candidates on the programme have access to a dedicated Job Coach and Employee
  • Engagement Coach who provides tailored training and ongoing workplace support during both the application process and their transition into employment.
