120km in July for Danaher

Alex Berwick is raising money for Danaher Animal Home

My story

I'm going to be running 120km in July 2020 to raise money for Danaher Animal Home. Every year Danaher takes in hundreds of lost, abandoned or ill treated animals. Whilst affiliated to the RSPCA, Danaher is an independent registered charity and is entirely responsible for raising its own funds.

In 2019, Danaher rehomed around 540 animals and neutered 321 animals.

COVID-19 has hit Danaher (which costs £600,000 a year to run) hard as its charity shops, which fund 52% of the home's running costs were closed for more than three months. Fundraising events are another major source of income - two sponsored dog walks and the annual summer fun day, which brought in more than £9,000 in 2019, have had to be cancelled.

By running 120km I'm hoping to raise some very much-needed money for this amazing charity.

I've been volunteering at Danaher as a dog walker for over two years and have been truly amazed by the care and attention that the staff and volunteers provide to the dogs, cats and small animals each and every day. I've witnessed some truly amazing transformations - dogs who arrived in a terrible condition go off to live the best lives with their new owners having been rehabilitated by the devoted staff.

As well as getting so much out of volunteering at Danaher (I'm sure that I get as much out of it as the dogs!), we are lucky enough to have rehomed two beautiful cats from Danaher last year. Bailey (who is pictured) and Knox regularly melt our hearts and I can't thank Danaher enough for looking after them so well for 7 months.

I'd be so grateful if you would consider giving a donation so that Danaher can keep helping so many animals who desperately need their support.

Thanks so much for taking the time to read my page!
