15 mile challenge

When I was in my mid twenties I was diagnosed with stage 4 Hodgkins Lymphoma. I thought I was putting on weight and feeling tired because I was burning the candle at both ends but it turned out I had a type of blood cancer. 

Many rounds of chemo followed and just when I thought the cancer has gone it came back stronger. 

I was told my best chance of survival was to have a stem cell transplant. My brother was tested but wasn’t a match and so the Anthony Nolan Trust tried to find me a match. Luckily they were successful and I underwent a stem cell transplant in November 2009. 

It was a gruelling time but thankfully I have been cancer free since. To celebrate the 15 year anniversary since the transplant we are going to walk 15 miles in the Peak District with some big hills thrown in to raise money for the Anthony Nolan Trust and DKMS. 

Both charities do an amazing job of putting people on the stem cell register and matching those with blood cancer with someone who can provide their stem cells.
