Pamela Amatller is raising money for My Name'5 Doddie Foundation and Alzheimer Scotland
This year - 2023 - I have given myself the target of walking 500 miles (for My Name'5 Doddie Foundation) and 500 more (for Alzheimer Scotland).
Rewind to December 2022. Feeling very unfit and in need of a virtual 'kick up the rear' to get me moving, I signed up to Doddie Aid 2023. I gave myself the challenge of walking 100 miles over the 6 weeks. I know this doesn't sound like much for some people. But for a very busy 40-something (hurtling towards 50) whose commitments are numerous, the REAL challenge was going to be TIME to get out in the fresh air!!
And so began the journey that morphed into a decision to walk 1000 miles - inspired of course by the wonderful Proclaimers hit "I will walk 500 miles and I will walk 500 more".
I have raised money for both of these charities before as they are both very close to my heart. My Grampaw Rennie suffered from MND before passing away in 1980. And my Dad (Duncan Steven) was diagnosed with dementia (Alzheimer's disease) in 2013. Sadly my Dad died in July this year and so the walking challenge has become even more poignant.
