500km Fitness Fundraiser
Event date: 3rd November 2023
Thomas Read bursary and the NCTJ is raising money for National Council For The Training Of Journalists
My story
On Friday, 3 November, the NCTJ, Read family and supporters of the Journalism Diversity Fund (JDF) will embark on a 500km fitness fundraiser to raise money for the Thomas Read bursary.
The NCTJ team will be aiming to clock up a combined total distance of 500km travelled in one day. There are no restrictions on the activities we can use to reach this target - we will be running, walking, cycling, rowing and more! This will be a team effort which will be physically and mentally challenging but we will all be working as a team. Nothing is impossible with determination on your side and that is what we are going to show.
We would love if you would join us in this challenge by contributing money and kilometres towards our goal. Everyone is welcome! Just remember to track your distance using a device or app in order for your efforts to count.
Keep up with our challenge on 3 November by following the NCTJ's social media pages, where we will be posting updates and giving live insights on how we're progressing throughout the day. We will be based at Fitness Focus Gym in Clavering, but we will accept kilometres travelled anywhere, be that on a treadmill or around your local area.
We are aiming to raise £5,000 for the Thomas Read bursary, which was set up in the memory of the young Sky Sports News journalist Thomas Read, who died unexpectedly in 2015. Thomas was an inspirational young journalist with cerebral palsy, who achieved a substantial amount in the field of journalism in a short space of time.
Each year the bursary is awarded through the JDF to an aspiring journalist with a disability or long-term physical or mental illness to fund their NCTJ journalism training.
Please support us and this very worthy cause to help people with disabilities kick start their journalism careers.
