My story
In March 2026, Abi, Tom and Richard will be taking on an extraordinary challenge together: walking 100km of the Camino de Santiago along the Portuguese Way.
From 14–20 March, The Very Revd Abi Thompson (Dean of Sheffield Cathedral), Tom Daggett (Director of Music), and Richard Taylor (Trustee of The Archer Project) will set off from Vigo, travelling on foot through beautiful and demanding landscapes. It will be a physically challenging and deeply reflective journey - and they won’t be doing it alone.
They’ll be joined by a wider team from the Sheffield Cathedral community:
This year, the Sheffield Cathedral team numbers TEN people. Walking alongside Tom and Abi will be Emily Cooper (Music and Liturgy Administrator and member of the Cathedral Choir), Charlotte Roberts (Schools Engagement Officer), Heidi Adcock (Director of Strategy and Funding), the Revd Ian Owers (Day Chaplains Lead), the Revd Julie Upton (Chapter Member), Jane Doran (Congregation member, Server and Electoral Roll Officer), Richard Taylor (Fabric Advisory Committee member and Archer Project Trustee) and Anne Kerslake (Congregation member and Archer Project Trustee). Together, they are walking as one team, united by shared purpose and the causes they care about.
They are raising money for two brilliant charities: The Choir With No Name and The Archer Project.
The Choir With No Name runs choirs across the UK for people affected by homelessness and marginalisation. These choirs build confidence, foster friendship, and spread joy through singing. The Sheffield choir rehearses at Sheffield Cathedral and is a powerful reminder of how music can bring people together.
The Archer Project is a Sheffield-based charity supporting people at all stages of homelessness, helping to move towards independence, routine and a more fulfilling life with food, showers, healthcare, and emotional and practical support.
Together, these charities support both the essentials of daily life and the things that give life meaning, dignity, creativity, community and belonging.
By supporting our walk, you are helping to make a real difference, one step at a time. Thank you so much for your generosity and encouragement.
