Adam is Running the London Marathon 2027

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page and supporting my chosen charities - VICTA and Moorfields Eye Charity.

In April, I will be taking on the challenge of running my first marathon in the 2027 TCS London Marathon. 2027 is the first time the marathon will be held over two years and I have been lucky enough to get a ballot place for the Saturday.

I will be taking on the 26.2mile course in support of two charities who have had and will continue to have a big impact on the lives of my family.

As some of you may be aware, over the past two years, my two young nephews, Theo and Ethan, have been diagnosed with a condition called Knobloch Syndrome. It is a rare genetic condition that effects the production of a certain type of collagen, and it effects fewer than 1 in a million people. It has a range of symptoms including severe eye issues, defects to the back of the skull, epilepsy, joint flexibility and other issues with the body’s main organs.

Whilst the boys do not exhibit a wide range of the symptoms, they are both affected by severe eyesight issues which unfortunately are not treatable. Theo has been registered as severely sight impaired and Ethan is still too young to understand the full impact that the condition is having on his eyesight.

The charities that I have chosen to run for are Moorfields Eye Charity and Victa.

Both of my nephews are under the care of Moorfields Eye Hospital, the leading provider of eye health services in the UK and a worldwide centre of excellence for eye care. The team there provide ongoing support, both medical and emotional, for the boys and their parents, Andy and Rachael. Whilst there are no current treatments available for the boys’ condition, the ongoing research into genetic testing that Moorfields undertake could one day prove vital in maintaining or even improving the boys’ eyesight.

VICTA is a national charity that provides support to children and young adults from 0 to 29 who are blind or partially sighted and their families. VICTA’s support, advice, grants and activities enable young people and their families to build skills, develop confidence and help each other toward a more positive future. Both Theo and Ethan are going to be able to benefit from VICTA’s fantastic work over the next couple of decades and as their eyesight deteriorates, their support will become invaluable.

Running the marathon is not just about doing the 26.2 miles on the day, it is months of commitment to training, no matter the weather but it’s a challenge I am really looking forward to. Your support for these causes, no matter how big or small, means more than you’ll ever know.
