Support the AdAmi Project and young mothers in Sierra Leone

Since 2015 all pregnant girls have been banned from attending school in Sierra Leone, on the basis that they are setting a bad example to their peers. As one of the poorest countries in the world, with over 60% of the population living on less than $1.25 a day, poverty remains a key contributing factor with many girls coerced into sex in exchange for water, food and other financial provisions.

Girls who become pregnant experience high rates of stigma and shame and are pushed hastily into adulthood. Once out of school, and without a strong support network, many girls never return. Living in poverty, they are unable to find the funds to cover school costs and struggle to juggle the demands of childcare, learning and working.

Having a child so young can be life-changing, but it does not need to mean the end of a girls hopes and ambitions. The AdAmi Project works together with expectant and young mothers in Bo district, southern Sierra Leone to help them realise their potential, equipping them with the tools, knowledge and confidence they need to live more empowered lives.
