Ali ' s Ice Bucket

Hi My name is Ali.

Thanks to Robyn, Tim and Sharon I've been nominated to do the Ice Bucket challenge. The Ice Bucket Challenge is for MND.

To me it seems a bit of a waste of water but I understand that the sensation of ice water being poured over your head is to represent what it feels like to have Motor Neurone Disease. I've made a donation to them.

However there are many people living with lifelong conditions and my husband is one of them. He has Gorlin Syndrome or Nevoid Basal Cell Carcinoma syndrome. It's a rare medical condition affecting many body systems and is caused by a fault in just one of the thousands of genes which us humans possess.

The condition is characterised by the development of multiple jaw cysts and basal cell carcinomas (skin cancers) and there is no cure. Treatment involves surgery which is painful and invasive. See gorlingroup.org for more information.

So what's this got to do with the Ice Bucket Challenge? Well this challenge has sent ripples over the world and has raised a lot of money as well as awareness of MND. I'm wanting to do the same for Gorlin Syndrome so I'm challenging you to be all ripples and sponsor me.

For £5,000 I will gladly put this bucket of ice water over my head. Yes you've heard £5,000. I know it's a lot of money but I have faith that this can be done. I know with the challenge there's a time limit of 24 hours. It would be AMAZING if I could raise £5,000 in 24 hours but being slightly realistic here I'm giving you all till the end of September 2014.

I promise as soon as the £5,000 is raised there will be getting the video of me getting a bucket of ice water poured over my head.
