The Journey of a Thousand Miles Begins with a Single Step

Walking for Twinkle House

Event date: 30th June 2013

Andrew Fairhurst is raising money for Twinkle House

My story

This summer, my nephew, Martyn King, and myself, Andi Fairhurst will be walking the Pennine Way. This is a 260 mile walk starting in Edale in Derbyshire, & finishing just over the Scottish border at Kirk Yetholm. We aim to complete this in 18 days, walking an average of 15 miles per day and camping every night..

Give MoneyThis walk will be entirely self-funded, but we would like to raise as much money as possible for a local charity.

Twinkle House is a registered Charity based in Skelmersdale that provides practical supported sessions for children and young people with disabilities and additional needs in West Lancashire and neighbouring areas. Sessions are sensory-based and supported by specially trained staff and volunteers providing strategies to parents and carers to help improve their clients' life skills and abilities, helping them achieve their potential. They teach relaxation techniques and promote positive behaviours, helping to improve overall well-being and quality of life. Many of their clients have behavioural, emotional and social difficulties as a result of their condition. They support 30 children each week and all year round. Many of their clients have conditions such as Autistic spectrum disorder, Attention Deficit Disorder or ADHD, Down's syndrome. Twinkle House are able to help their clients cope better with some of the difficulties they face as a result of their condition.

Funds raised may be used to ...

Every £30.00 raised enables Twinkle House to provide a one hour, one-to-one session for a child or young person with disabilities. They desperately need new premises to be able to offer more support as they now have a 6 month waiting list for help. They have launched a Fundraising target to raise £1million by 2014 to help them get a new centre.
