Andy Geelan is raising money for King Edward VII's Hospital and Combat Stress

My story

I aim to complete seven marathons over seven days on a unique course set in and around the Rosendale Hills where I live, each 26 mile route includes 2900ft of accents. So In total, I will take on 182 miles and just over 20,000 feet of altitude gain.  I’m set myself this challenge to raise awareness for Combat Stress and the services provided by the King Edward VII’s Hospital and hopefully some money too, to help others in my position.

I am a former King’s Royal Hussars Corporal who was seriously wounded and medically retired from the military following an IED blast, on operations in Afghanistan. The injuries I received are wide ranging, Severe traumatic brain injury, extensive nerve damage, chronic pain, migraines and complex PTSD. I have spent the last 12+ years in therapy and treatment following my accident, 2 whilst still in the army and the remainder post discharge.

Since leaving the military, these two organizations transformed my life through their vital services, and I'm deeply motivated to help them reach others in need. My family and I believe strongly in giving back, and since these charities played such a crucial role in my recovery and renewed sense of purpose, I want to ensure they can continue providing their life-saving support to others.

Any assistance I can offer - whether through raising awareness of their services or helping secure financial support - would allow me to express my gratitude while helping them extend their impact to more people who need it.

I will be starting on a Sunday 4th May and finishing the following Saturday aiming to leave daily from the start position at 5:30 AM and aiming to finish at Burrs Country Park near Bury by 1:30PM.

“It is never too late to seek help and for that help to make a real difference to your life! I’ve made the biggest steps forward and improvements to the quality of life for my whole family and myself, over the last 2 years”

Wanted to keep everyone up-to-date on my , with only 7 weeks to go until I start my first marathon on the 4th of May.

Training is going very well, still very cold in the morning, but at least for now it’s been dry 😀
As I said in my last update all my training sessions from when this page was set up are automatically uploaded here, every training session prior to that going back to the 1st of September 2024 is on my Strava account which can be accessed from here and is public.
