Meet Ben ❤️
He’s an 8-year-old autistic boy, full of energy, incredibly observant and determined. When something catches his interest, he gives it his whole heart.
For Ben, cycling has always been more than just riding a bike. It’s something that brings him happiness, helps him regulate his emotions and gives him a sense of calm and freedom.
In May, we went on our first long cycling adventure together, all the way to Windsor. Ben managed to cycle an incredible 56 kilometres, and I remember thinking how amazing that was for such a young boy!
After that ride, we started talking about how much he loves cycling and what else he might be able to achieve. Somewhere during that conversation, a little idea turned into a much bigger one.
What if Ben could cycle 500 kilometres and raise money for his school at the same time?
And that’s how this challenge was born!
But there is another special reason behind Ben’s challenge.
Alongside cycling, computing is one of Ben’s greatest passions. It’s something that truly fascinates him and captures his attention and curiosity.
So when we talked about raising money for his school, Ben wanted to support something close to his heart — a computing classroom at All Saints’ Primary School.
I find it beautiful that he can use one of his biggest passions, cycling, to help support another, computing, while creating something that other children at his school can benefit from too.
For an 8-year-old, 500 kilometres is a big distance, so we’re taking it one ride at a time. Ben has already completed two incredible cycling routes, showing just how determined he is.
As his mum, my role is simple: to believe in him, encourage him when things get difficult and be right there beside him, kilometre after kilometre.
This challenge is about much more than cycling. It’s about turning something that helps Ben feel happy and calm into something positive for others.
We’re not racing against anyone or trying to break records. We’re simply giving one little boy the opportunity to follow his passion, believe in himself and discover just how much he can achieve.
500 kilometres. Two bikes. One very determined little boy. ❤️
If you would like to support Ben in raising money towards his school’s computing classroom, every donation, big or small, and every kind word of encouragement will mean so much to him.
Thank you for being part of his journey! 🚴❤️
