Beth’s Cricket without Boundaries Challenge: Brazil 2026

This October, I’m heading to Brazil to volunteer with Cricket Without Boundaries — a charity that uses cricket to deliver life-changing health and education programmes across the globe.

The charity has been running youth development programmes for many years in Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Nepal, Jordan, Lebanon, and now Brazil.

This isn’t just about teaching cricket. The young people I’ll be coaching are dealing with gang violence, family instability, racism, bullying, and a lack of safe spaces to just be kids. These are some of the challenges young people themselves identified as the things holding them back.

The trip will put me massively out of my comfort zone. For two weeks, I’ll be working alongside local coaches, visiting multiple schools and communities every day and coaching over a thousand kids.

We’ll be teaching a sport most of them have never seen before, overcoming language barriers and giving many children their first experience of organised sport.

Growing up, cricket played a huge part in my life. I was fortunate enough to play both county and club cricket, and I’ve seen first-hand how sport can build confidence and opportunities. I’ve recently been reconnected with the game through coaching, which has reminded me just how powerful sport can be in bringing people together and helping young people thrive.

Cricket Without Boundaries does far more than grow a sport. It creates safe spaces, builds life skills, and opens new opportunities for young people who often face significant challenges in their daily lives.

Most importantly, all Cricket Without Boundaries programmes creatively link the game with messages on health and social issues that matter to those communities. This helps inspire a network of young leaders who can create positive change long after we’ve flown home.

I’m covering my own travel costs, so donations go straight to the charity to support:

• Equipment for schools and community sessions
• Training and developing local coaches
• Running sessions and festivals
• Expanding into new communities
