Bike Oxford Sportive for The Archway Foundation

Andrew is raising money for The Archway Foundation

My story

I'm cycling in the Bike Oxford sportive to raise money for the Oxford based charity, The Archway Foundation.

Over 9 million people in the UK – almost a fifth of the population – say they are always or often lonely, and its effects include deterioration in mental and physical health as well as emotional distress.

The Archway Foundation tackles loneliness and isolation in Oxfordshire, helping people who feel unwanted and excluded, matching them with volunteer befrienders and social networks that give them back a sense of belonging.

I think Covid lockdowns and associated societal changes have given us all a greater appreciation of the impact loneliness can have.
So I'm happy to support a small local charity that helps to relieve the distress associated with loneliness, its causes and impact.
Plus my sister works for The Archway Foundation and she twisted my arm

What I will be doing to warrant your donations?
I'll be attempting the Bike Oxford long route, 78 miles and 4,328 feet of climbing. bikeoxford.co.uk/
The ride does take in some of the Oxford colleges but it also visits the Chilterns! Something my sister neglected to mention.
I've never done so much climbing in one day, so it will definitely be a challenge.

I'd really appreciate your sponsorship, and thank you for your support.

Thank you for checking out my page. Making a donation is fast, easy and secure thanks to Give as you Live Donate. They'll take your donation and pass it onto The Archway Foundation.

Well those hills were definitely a challenge but thanks to a lot of jelly babies, I finished the long route. Thanks everyone for your sponsorship

Wow! I never thought I'd reach £500, thank you everyone for your generosity.
Preparation wise I have been back on a bike this week, only indoors and not more than hour but last session was all about climbing, to get ready for all those hills on Bike Oxford

Well I did my first 100 mile ride on Saturday, see pic, so I'm more confident I can do the distance for Bike Oxford but can I do the hills? Less than 2 weeks till we find out.
Thanks again everyone for your kind donations, it is definitely motivating me to get back on my bike, but not today :)

Thanks everyone for your generous sponsorship, you're all fabulous.
I've got another long ride this coming weekend so good chance to check my kit for Bike Oxford, here's what I think I'll need to bring. Oh and some clothes!

After an enjoyable week of relaxed cycling through Murcia, it's back to the more serious business of preparation for Bike Oxford, given last night's torrential rain it was indoors on Zwift
