Our story

Come and support Marta, Ant and HoJan as we take on our very first triathlon at the Birmingham Triathlon on 11 July 2026!

We'll be swimming 750m, cycling 20km and running 5km to complete the sprint triathlon.

Along the way, we're hoping to raise funds for Sandwell Homeless And Resettlement Project, a long-standing charity based in Smethwick. SHARP supports people experiencing homelessness, as well as those who need help to maintain their own accommodation and rebuild their lives.

We'd love to see you cheering us on at Sutton Park, and if you're able to, we'd be incredibly grateful for any donation to support this fantastic local charity.

Thank you for your support!

Our updates

Marta and I did it!

We both really enjoyed getting ready for this event, and the event itself certainly didn't disappoint.

Over the last three months, I've been taking swimming lessons, spending more time in the gym and practising brick sessions (two or three disciplines completed consecutively in a single training session).
There was so much to think about when planning the logistics: how to get the bikes from A to B, what we needed in our transition area, and how to carry enough hydration on the route.

Before the event, both Marta and I thought the swim would be the most challenging part. Thanks to the heatwave, the water was actually a lovely temperature, and we both did really well on this first leg. We completed it in less time than we'd expected.

The bike ride was harder than we had anticipated. During the hour it took me to cover the 20 km, other participants kept overtaking me, and the only lady I managed to overtake was riding an old lady bike (minus the basket!). We were both relieved when that leg was over and finished the event strongly with a 5 km run.

Coming from a running background, we felt confident about this final stage. That said, our legs definitely felt wobbly for the first 500 metres, and it took a couple of minutes to settle into our stride.

We are overwhelmed by the support we received on the day. We had so many friends and family there to cheer us on, which meant so much to us.

Thank you as well to everyone who has donated to Sandwell Homeless and Resettlement Project, we smashed our fundraising target!!

If you'd like to know more about the charity and the different ways you can support it, feel free to get in touch. I'd be happy to chat about the incredible work Sandwell Homeless and Resettlement Project does and how your support can make a real difference to people's lives.

Today I ended up doing two separate bike rides through Sandwell Valley and managed to clock up the 20km we will be doing next Saturday as part of our triathlon.

It bike ride took way longer than I expected:

  • I haven't had the chance to propped refuel after running 42km Saturday
  • I managed to chuck my car key into a bush whilst grabbing my phone and needed Marta to come to the rescue to find it
  • I grabbed the wrong bike for Seyram - so she had to get used to riding a bigger frame
  • The weather was lovely so everyone and their dog was out
  • Last, but not least... I completed disregarded the fact that road cycling involves situational awareness, anticipating what other road users are doing, manoeuvring to stay safe and a whole lot of breaking!!

I am trying to dial down my competitive side... However I have my hopes set on between the three of us, I will come out of this event with the fastest bike time 🤘🏼
