My story
I've done plenty of crazy running things. So why am I running with the Tavs?
It started because they change lives. Volunteering with them in 2023 taught me a lot: for the kids, I saw a non-verbal boy start out being nervous, shy and not wanting to pick up a cricket bat, to weeks later walking in the door with a massive grin and sprinting to be the first one at the kit. For the parents: at the end of the first session, a number came up asking how much it would cost to come back in future weeks. I'll never forget the look of joy and relief on their faces when they found out it was free.
Then, I realised that they save lives. Hearing stories like Imogen's at the Super 1s awards in 2024, it became clear how profound a change on these kid's trajectory the programs have. Not only that, every Super 1s award winner I've met is so confident, kind, and determined to do good. They are all determined to make the world a better place, and by supporting the Tavs we help them grow.
Finally, selfishly, the Tavs have helped save me. When my anorexia was at its worst and I nearly died in April 2025, the Tavs helped me get through it and working with them was a light in an otherwise very dark time. Being a megaphone for them, and raising a few quid along the way, is the least I can do to repay them.
I love what this bunch do. That's why you should donate.
