My story
The 3rd July 2026 will mark the 10th year anniversary of when we lost Steve, following his courageous and inspirational battle with MND.
We wanted to commemorate this by holding this event on Saturday 6th June 2026 from 19:30-00:00 to raise money for two charities who supported Steve and our family during his illness.
There will be live music, food, and beer brewed from Steve’s recipes for you to taste.
Due to limited venue capacity, this is an adult only function, however if we have space left then this will be opened up to children too.
ENTRANCE TO THE EVENT IS £25 DONATION PER PERSON.
PLEASE WRITE IN YOUR MESSAGE IF YOU ARE WANTING A TICKET AND THE NAMES(s) OF THOSE ATTENDING
We were put in touch with Jane (who worked for the MNDA) who walked with us every step of the way, and became a massive source of advice and support in navigating our new life with MND. She also connected me with Charlotte - a woman who sadly had lived experience of losing her husband to MND at a similar age when she also had two young boys. Charlotte became a lifeline and a beacon of hope that our family could get through this.
The MNDA also funded several pieces of necessary equipment that made Steve’s quality of life so much better. The eye gaze technology not only allowed Steve to continue communicating with us when he could no longer speak, but it also helped him remain at work, which gave him so much personal satisfaction. It also preserved some of his independence by enabling him to control electronic devices such as light switches, his TV and his bed.
Steve spent two months in St Luke’s Hospice after his last hospital admission, which was in the run up to Christmas. The staff were incredible, and so caring. They arranged for us to have friends over for food and a drink to celebrate Christmas together, and they even let Steve have his beer making equipment brought in so he could brew beer there with his best man Yeard.
They supported me in caring for Steve back at home, and facilitated his discharge a couple of days before Christmas so we could celebrate this one last time together as a family.
Their support and care continued for the remaining 7 months of his life.
We are forever grateful to the MNDA and St Luke’s for their support, and for the care they continue to deliver to other families like ours.
