Children's Cystic Fibrosis Trail Challenge

The Paediatric Cystic Fibrosis Team at Leighton Hospital are taking on the Sandstone Trail to raise money for Mid Cheshire Hospitals Charity and need your support!

Cystic Fibrosis is a chronic life-long condition which mainly affects the lungs and digestive system. In the UK, 1 in every 2,500 babies are born with CF. Living with cystic fibrosis requires a demanding daily commitment to chest physiotherapy, and complex medication regimes. In addition, they have to attend regular hospital appointments and undergo numerous tests. These essential treatments help patients to maintain their health and live lives comparable to those of their peers, yet impose a significant "time tax" and mental burden.

On 16th & 17th May, the team will be trekking across 3 counties completing the full length of the Sandstone Trail. That's 34 miles of hiking across sandstone ridges, cliffs, crags and caves...where the highest point will take them 746 feet above sea level!
Day 1 will see them start their journey in the market town of Frodsham, completing the first 17 miles, taking them to the halfway point at Higher Burwardsley. 
Day 2 they will continue their challenge to complete the remaining 14 miles where they'll cross the finish line in Whitchurch.

Every penny raised will go directly to the Paediatric Cystic Fibrosis Team. This will help to fund equipment that goes above and beyond NHS provision. They are hoping to purchase a 'child friendly' Spirometer (Lung Function Machine) which will provide the children in their care with a more in depth and better understanding of their lung health. Having this information is essential in making sure the children are receiving the most appropriate level of care.
