Cleaning up our act for the Sharks!

Event date: 14th October 2011

Smileydiver is raising money for The Shark Trust

My story

In preparation for European Shark Week, I will be helping raise awareness of the plight of our rapidly diminishing shark population and raising funds for the Shark Trust.

As I think it's time we all cleaned up our act for our oceans and especially our sharks, I will be cleaning out the shark tank at Brighton Aquarium for the day! I will be spending the day cleaning and caring for the sharks in a bid to reinforce their image as the amazing creatures that they are and detract from the images the press often portray of man eating monsters. Humans slaughter over 270,000 sharks a DAY. There are only a handful of shark attacks a YEAR, many provoked by interference in the shark's natural habitat and hardly their fault - their oceans, their habitat, enough said.

Established in 1997, the Shark Trust is the UK registered charity which works to advance the worldwide conservation of sharks through science, education, influence and action. Their vision is a world where sharks thrive within a globally healthy marine ecosystem. Something, as a keen diver, I would love to see.
