The Arms Trade: Time To Take Action #TheNightManager
Event dates: 27th March 2016 – 27th May 2017
E. E. Jones is raising money for TRUST FOR RESEARCH AND EDUCATION ON THE ARMS TRADE (TREAT)
My story
"You know what those weapons can do to a body. ... The question is, what are you prepared to do about it?"
Inspired to act by the BBC One drama (based on on the John le Carré novel) - because 'The Night Manager' is fiction but the issues - & the weapons - are real.
The Trust for Research and Education on the Arms Trade (TREAT) was established in 1990 to promote research into the international arms trade and its effects, and disseminate the results of such research. It acts as a grant-making charity. The main, but by no means only, beneficiary is the Campaign Against Arms Trade (CAAT), a UK-based organisation working to end the international arms trade.
A list of grants made in recent years can be found here: treat-research.org.uk/grants-made.php
CAAT's priorities are:
-
To stop the procurement or export of arms where they might:
exacerbate conflict, support aggression, or increase tension
support an oppressive regime or undermine democracy
threaten social welfare through the level of military spending -
To end all government political and financial support for arms exports
-
To promote progressive demilitarisation within arms-producing countries.
CAAT was awarded the Right Livelihood Award, the Alternative Nobel Prize, in 2012 for innovative and effective campaigning against the global arms trade.
