Katy Sage is raising money for Crisis UK
My story
Picture of me looking rather fetching, at my first year volunteering for Crisis at Christmas.
I can't even fathom how awful it must be to be homeless, let alone in the freezing winter. I really believe in Crisis and fully support what they do. As I have done previously, I will volunteer my time, but on this occasion I want to raise money whilst I do it!
Over Christmas I will be doing a total of 4, 8 hour shifts, these include: Christmas eve and day, boxing day, and the 30th of Dec. For me this is the best way to celebrate the festive season, I am pretty anti the whole affair, eating tons of food, watching the same films year in year out, and giving copious amounts of unwanted gifts. Sorry to all you Crimbo lovers out there, but it really is a money making machine, and we are all buying into it - bah humbug! I chose to do this instead, because it really does make me feel full of the Christmas spirit!
The centres which are based at various locations across London (and the UK), provide shelter, beds, food, showers, entertainment, support, medical care, and so much more, for two weeks over the Christmas period.
Some homeless people have said to me before that they don't like to stay over, as they don't want to soften themselves up and then have to go back to the harsh reality of sleeping on the streets (can you even imagine?)
I would love to make some money for Crisis, whilst I volunteer my time - you volunteer your money! Sound good? I aim to raise £50+ for every shift... please help me do it, thank you!! xx
P.S. If you are strapped for cash this Christmas and/or you are at a loss, thinking what shall I do? Then why not volunteer yourself, see the following link showing all the sites, they run across the UK: crisis.org.uk/get-involved/volunteer/crisis-at-christmas/
If you end up getting involved, I promise you, you will have a brilliant time, and like me you will end up coming back to do it again and again. xx
