My story

As part of my journey in recovery from open heart surgery I took up cycling for exercise, I was helped out in a big way by the generosity of the Yangon Dragons Rugby club when I was struggling to pay the cost of surgery due to being excluded from insurance as I had had a stroke in 2016.

As a way to say thank you and to pay this generosity forward I plan to do a fund raising event from Nov 15 to Dec 15 to benefit the kids and their families that Crossing the Gain Line work with in Yangon Myanmar.

My plan is to cycle a minimum of 30km a day for the duration and seek either donations or sponsorship per km. Please follow my journey as I post reports daily on facebook and you can donate directly or make per km pledges on FB or PM to me and donate at the end of the 31 days. If you want to join me and fundraise for this great cause please send an email to Tladi @ tladi.small@crossingthegainline.org and he will set you up and get you on board to join the fun, bike, run swim whatever your plan it all works..you get fitter and we help out folk that need it, what can be better than that!!

I hope to reach 1000km over the 31 days of the fundraiser and will post daily, and share strava reports on my activity to my facebook

My updates

I have been looking forward to being able to share this update on my fund raise for Crossing The Gain Line for the last 4 weeks. I finally got over my unplanned December trip over the handlebars and got back to regular rides this week. Which meant we finally hit the 31 days, for the sake of the fund raise I have extended the fund raise to the end of the month to see if I can bring in a bit more cash for the the kids we look after and their families in these difficult times.

For the record and for the per km sponsors my final 31 day distance was 1062 km, a great big thank you to everyone who contributed, total will be close to 1000 usd we have raised so far and hoping for a bit more to come in before the end of January. Many thanks again for the kind sponsors, many thanks for everyone who helped out and everyone who showed support and appreciation along the way.

Pleased to report some easing of the discomfort from the rib injury sustained and the hip to knee hematoma (blood bruise) that is starting to clear up now. My first trial back on the bike last week aggravated the rib injury but am ready to test again tomorrow, watch this space for a Strava report!! I have extended the campaign to year end to get in the distance target set and am just sorry an accident got in the way of me hitting my targets in the 31 days planned. Big shout out to Jeff Parry and Bikeworld Myanmar who replaced my written off helmet, many thanks for that Jeff I will be buying any gear I get and doing my bike services at your shop for sure.

My crash on day 19 has only temporarily derailed efforts on my 31 days to ride 30km per day, just to update on my total so far, as of Day 19 I am on 623.2km total. So well on track to hit the 1000km in the 31 days. I will have an x-ray tomorrow on my ribs just to be sure nothing is broken, but I am confident it is just bruising. I was also very lucky to be wearing a good helmet which saved me from any significant head injury and even thought it is a write off it did its job. I cannot stress how grateful I am for that and the helmet is going to be replaced by the manufacturer (Bontrager) as they give you a replacement helmet FOC if you crash in the first 12 months of ownership. I am also very grateful to them for that. Only minor repairs required for the bike and am confident i am back in the action midweek this week, so I will extend the campaign for as many days as I need to make up the 31 days. Thank you everyone who has pledged or donated so far, we are up to around 700usd at this stage. Many thanks for that and also for the support , like on here and Strava! More daily updates as soon as we are back on 2 wheels.
