Dave Holland's Raft Race fundraising page

Well-cheered by noisy spectators from the school and the village, we completed the 7-mile course in 4h 35 minutes, finishing a respectable 48th out of 63. ..quite an achievement when you consider that our raft was themed as a pub beer garden with 6 rowers propelling 5 other drinkers, table, chairs, parasol and even a pub sign.

The team wish to thank their families, all sponsors, and The Boars Head for help with props (not least, some beer) and the after-race party.

I will be part of a 10-Dad crew aiming to complete the 7-mile course down the River Avon from Wasperton to Stratford upon Avon in a home made raft. We'll be aiming to keep afloat over 2 weirs in a vessel constructed from reclaimed barrels, timber and old school chairs. If we can manage that, we just have to dodge the water pistols, eggs and other missiles which are apparently thrown from bridges and river banks along the course.

Half the money raised by the crew will go to the Friends of Hampton Lucy School charity. This charity aims to raise money to fund educational and recreational activities for the children of our school. The other half raised will go to the Wellesbourne and Stratford Lions Charitable Trusts. The Lions organize the Avon charity raft race every year to raise money for good causes and this year the main beneficiary is the Graham Fulford Charitable Trust. This organization raises funds to reduce suffering from prostate cancer by raising awareness and promoting early diagnosis through PSA testing
